In accordance with the policy adopted by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, the contact info a domain name is registered with must be valid and accurate all the time. Additionally, this info is freely accessible on WHOIS websites and while this may be OK for corporations, it may not be very acceptable for individuals, because anybody can view their names and their personal email and home addresses, all the more so in an age when identity theft is not that infrequent. This is why domain name registrars have launched a service that hides the details of their customers without editing them. The service is referred to as Whois Privacy Protection. If it is active, people will see the details of the registrar, not the domain owner’s, if they make a WHOIS inquiry. The Whois Privacy Protection service is supported by all generic top-level domain name extensions, but it’s still not possible to hide your personal information with certain country-code ones.

Whois Privacy Protection in Shared Hosting

Enabling the Whois Privacy Protection service for any domain registered with us is surprisingly easy if you’ve got a Linux shared plan. You can achieve this through the same Hepsia Control Panel, via which you administer your hosting account – you’ll only have to go to the Registered Domains section where all your domain names will be displayed and to click the “Whois Privacy Protection” symbol, which will be available for each top-level domain name that supports the protection service. This is also the place where you can renew the Whois Privacy Protection service or disable it altogether – if you want to transfer a specific domain name to some other registrar. With the Whois Privacy Protection service, you can conceal your private or business contact information with just a couple of mouse clicks and stop worrying that your information might be acquired by unauthenticated persons.

Whois Privacy Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you’ve got a semi-dedicated server account with our company and you register a domain name under it, you can activate our Whois Privacy Protection service easily. This takes only a few clicks of the mouse in the Registered Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel, through which you manage everything related to your semi-dedicated web hosting account. This is the place where you can see all your domain names and for each of them you’ll find an “Whois Privacy Protection” icon, using which you can order, renew or remove the Whois Privacy Protection service. Of course, this will be possible only with generic and country-code domain name extensions that support this option and you’ll be able to see this beforehand, so that you won’t end up purchasing a service that we cannot provide.
