SPF, which is short for Sender Policy Framework, is an email protection system, that is designed to verify whether an email message is sent by an authorized server. Employing SPF protection for a particular domain name will prevent the faking of emails generated with the domain. In layman's terms: enabling this feature for a domain name makes a special record in the Domain Name System (DNS) containing the IP addresses of the servers that are permitted to send e-mails from mail boxes using the domain. Once this record propagates worldwide, it exists on all the DNS servers that route the Internet traffic. Whenever some e-mail message is sent, the first DNS server it goes through checks whether it comes from an approved server. In the event it does, it's forwarded to the destination address, but if it does not come from a server indexed in the SPF record for the particular domain, it is rejected. In this way nobody can mask an email address and make it appear as if you're sending spam. This method is also referred to as email spoofing.

SPF Protection in Shared Hosting

If you host your domain names in a shared hosting account with us and we handle the email addresses for them, you'll be able to enable SPF protection for them with a couple of clicks in your Hepsia Control Panel. This service is accessible in a separate section where you'll be able to see which domain names are already secured. For the ones that aren't, you will be able to activate the SPF protection service and configure a variety of things during this process - the hostnames of the mail servers that are allowed to send messages from your addresses, the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of these servers, and even to create a rule that messages can be sent only if your domains have our MX records. The last choice is the most secure one, but you can use it when we manage the e-mail addresses for your domain names and do not use a different email supplier. The newly created records will be activated within a day and nobody will be able to fake the FROM field in an email with your email addresses.

SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia website hosting Control Panel, which is provided with all of our Linux semi-dedicated servers, will provide you with an exceptionally easy-to-use interface to activate the SPF security service for each domain that you host within your new account. A few clicks in the Emails section of Hepsia will be enough for that then you'll only have to enter the hostname and the IP address of the mail server that will be permitted to send out messages from your e-mails. When the emails are managed on our end and not by some other provider, you'll be able to increase the security level even further and take advantage of an option for all of the outgoing emails to be sent only if your domains use our MX records. This option provides you with increased control and it will eliminate any possibility of anybody forging your e-mails with the intention of spamming and / or scamming people. It's not applicable if only your site is hosted on our cutting-edge cloud website hosting platform, while your emails are managed by some other service provider. If you are not sure what features to choose, our tech support team will help you 24/7.
